I am a consultant ophthalmologist as well as an AME, so I can carry out specialist eye examination at the time of your medical if this is necessary (normally the basic eye exam to AME standard is all that is needed).

This would need to be booked in advance so that we can arrange a longer appointment time. I normally expect you to bring the Med 162 form completed by your optometrist.

I charge £250 for consultant eye examinations, or £400 – £600 (depending on complexity) if you for eye examinations and a report for an aviation authority.

I may charge more for complex appeals to aviation authorities but I will agree a price with you for these unusual situations.

Due to the Covid-19 crisis and my return to NHS work, there may be a short delay before I reply to emails and booking requests. Please be aware of the extensions the CAA have granted in commercial and recreational aviation (available on my links page). Before attending for your medical, please confirm that you have not had symptoms in the previous week, or been in contact with anyone who has had symptoms in the previous two weeks. Please wear a mouth and nose covering to your medical and respect our receptionist, who has to carry out a symptom and contact tracing questions before she can admit you to the clinic. Please note that I will check our forehead temperatures before proceeding on the day. Thank you for understanding these precautions.
