Mr John Pitts LLM FRCP FRCS FRCOphth DAvMed
I learned to fly in UGSAS, the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde Air Squadron in a Scottish Aviation Bulldog when I was a second and third year medical student. As a private pilot in the UK and Barbados, I've flown Tomahawks, Warriors, and Cessnas, done aerobatics in an RV8 and hitched rides in Sea King and Merlin helicopters. My hitching high point was a flight in a twin-seat Lightning from RAF Binbrook!
I obtained the Certificate in Aviation Medicine from RAF Farnborough in 1989 and the Diploma in Aviation Medicine from Kings' College London in 2004. I work as a consultant ophthalmic surgeon and AME, and am a medical adviser in ophthalmology to the Civil Aviation Authority.
